Today I gave a day-long class on Spoken Word in Amsterdam. I was inspired by Jason, Froukje with her New Year’s wish, Unicef with a compilation of different young people and in addition to Spoken Word, singing. I had the students watch the arm movements and phrasing of Amara van der Elst. The empty Dam square during corona time where she recited a poem feels long gone and evokes nostalgia. But for me, the topper is Zaire Krieger, because of the way she uses her bodylanguage and makes a use of pause and rhythm.
